When you start a new bookstore, the location you choose is key. Is there parking easily available near the entrance? Are there other thriving businesses nearby that will generate traffic? Is there competition? Are the people who frequent the area likely to be interested in spending time in a bookstore? To make it easy for visitors to find you be sure that you are in an area with high visibility. #AudienceEngagement #Blog
    Comfortable Seating

    Comfortable Seating

Successful bookstores have comfortable, quiet areas to read a few pages of the books in your store. This helps your customers get interested enough in the book to purchase it. Be sure the lighting is bright enough to read easily, but soft enough to be relaxing. #Blog #AudienceEngagement

The source of your inventory will is very important. Booksellers usually have low profit margins. You will have to monitor your inventory carefully to see what is moving and whether you are stocking titles that provide cash flow. This is a very involved topic that I prefer to review on an individual basis because the variables are too complicated for generalities if you want to have a successful store. Discussion Groups

Keeping your customers coming back takes commitment. Create and encourage events like group discussions of new arrivals. Be sure that there is a sign that everyone reads as they enter the store to advertise the group meeting. Developing a sense of community can bring in business and spread the word about your inviting store. Let people have meetings there if they have a common interest. This will bring in more customers. #AudienceEngagement #Blog

To really engage your visitors, a cup of coffee can be just the ticket. But hold on, you'll have to give this one some serious thought because it can cause headaches when you get involved with the red tape surrounding food-handling. One solution is to contract out this part of the business to someone who is familiar with the requirements and ready to go. #Blog #AudienceEngagement
